WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms (META.O), wasn't working for a lot of people on Wednesday. A website called Downdetector.com, which checks if services are down, showed this. In the U.S., around 12,000 people said they had problems with WhatsApp. Downdetector figures out if there's an outage by looking at complaints from users and other sources.
In India, more than 20,000 users reported issues. In the United Kingdom, about 46,000 people said they were having problems, and in Brazil, over 42,000 users reported troubles with WhatsApp according to Downdetector.
About 4,800 people in the United States also had problems with Instagram, says Downdetector. Meta, the company that owns Instagram, hasn't answered questions about this yet. Last month, a big problem stopped Facebook and Instagram from working for more than two hours, affecting hundreds of thousands of people around the world. This happened because of a technical glitch.
